Since when did a Court of law acquire a judicial power to enforce merit in religious or spiritual matters? I am amused first and truly amazed next - all, with due respects to the Court.

The caste system has been the most vilified aspect of Hindu society at the hands of Western scholars. And this has greatly contributed to India’s lack of national pride, as you hardly find any Indian who is not ashamed of caste, especially if he talks to a Westerner. Much of this shame originated with the idea that it was the Aryans who devised the caste system. And thus English missionaries and later, American preachers, were able to convert tribes and low caste Hindus by telling them : “ you, the aborigines, the tribals, the Harijans, are the original inhabitants of India, and you should discard Hinduism, the religion of the Aryans and embrace, Christianity, the true religion”.



Thus was born the great Aryan invasion theory, of two civilisations, that of the low caste Dravidians and the high caste Aryans, always pitted against each other — which has endured, as it is still today being used by some Indian politicians. It has also been enshrined in all history books — Western, and unfortunately also Indian, although all the latest linguistic, archaeological and satellite mapping, show that there never was an Aryan invasion. This theory has also made Indians look westwards, instead of taking pride in their past and present achievements.


Yet, once upon a time, caste was an arrangement for the distribution of functions in society, just as much as class in Europe, but the principle on which this distribution was based was unique and adapted to India’s social needs. It is true that the caste system degenerated and that it bred exploitation and abuses, which were often unforgivable. But look at today: it is the Brahmins who have become the Dalits of India. Brahmins are in minority in most of the UP villages, where Dalits constitute 60 to 65 per cent ; most of the intellectual Brahmin Tamil class has emigrated outside Tamil Nadu; the average income of Brahmins is less than that of non-Brahmins; a high percentage of Brahmin students drop out at the intermediate level ; 75 per cent of domestic help and cooks in Andhra Pradesh are Brahmins; and most of Delhi’s public toilets are cleaned by Brahmins (Brahmins of India by J. Radhakrishna, published by Chugh Publications, 2007).


It is also true that India has been trying to get away from the caste system in the last 60 years. And with some success: it is difficult today to distinguish the upper caste from the Dalit, in a plane, an hotel or shopping mall. The government has also implemented many schemes that did successfully empower the lower castes both at the educational and social level, even if this system has sometime been perverted. But the people who demand today a caste census, do not want it to alleviate caste and poverty. They want it because in today’s India, it is enough to have the voices of the Muslims and the Dalits to be elected. It is at best a cynical ploy, and at worst one that will hurt India and divide it more and more as the British had wished.


What is sure is that if there is a caste census, the greatest sufferers will be the ‘other’ non-Dalit Hindus, who constitute nearly 40 per cent of the Hindu community (unfortunately they are hopelessly divided). Indeed, we live today in an India where Hindus, the overwhelming majority of this country, are treated like an inconsequential minority. An India, where it’s okay to free the two Muslims convicted by the Mumbai police for helping in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, but where Swami Nityananda, a grown-up adult, who had consensual sex with a grown-up woman, is thrown in jail. An India, where the so called-Hindu terrorists of Malegaon, or Ajmer, languish in prison without ever having been convicted, but where those guilty of having killed so many people in the German Bakery of Pune, have never been caught, as there is no political will to do so. An India, where many institutions have been subverted by the Government to the point that in exchange for Mayawati’s support in the recent cut motion, the CBI lifted all cases against her. An India which is supposed to be the largest democracy in the world, but where phones are tapped, where politicians who take thousands of crores as bribes, get away with it, and where people are scared to speak aloud. An India where Sir Mark Tully (who most definitely wrote Hindutva, Sex & Adventures), is considered an icon of ‘fair’ journalism, whereas, when he was BBC’s correspondent, he set standards in reporting on South Asia, which still stand today and harm India’s image. Even though since the mid-Eighties, Pakistan encouraged, financed, trained and armed Kashmiri separatism, Tully always made it a point to say: “India accuses Pakistan to foster separatism in Kashmir”; or : “elections are being held in Indian- held Kashmir”; or “Kashmir militants ” have attacked an army post, instead of “terrorists”. All the other foreign journalists, yesterday and today have followed the BBC’s benchmarks.


This hostile attitude, pioneered by the BBC, may have also partially influenced President Obama’s South Asia policy, whereas he thinks he can fight terror by making a frontline state of the very country which fosters three-fourths of the terror attacks in the world. He is also tightening the screws on India so that it negotiates with Pakistan, even at the cost of compromising on its sovereignty in Kashmir. Obama is finally pressuring Manmohan Singh to give up India’s military nuclear programme, leaving it at the mercy of not only Pakistan’s, but also China’s formidable nuclear arsenal. The government may have come to a secret agreement with US on all these points. The caste census is just another ploy to subvert democracy in the name of democracy.

Needless to say, in a motherly way with true brahamanical spirit, Bharat Mata gave its all to whoever came for whatever purpose. So unfathomable has been the compassion that even those who came to plunder and molest were given its very life breath. Never once the men with sword were threatened with sword. This doesn’t mean Bharat Mata didn’t produce brave sons. Infact the bravery of it’s sons is unparalleled in the history of humanity. While the great cultures of Persia, Babylonia, Aztecs, Mayans and like were uprooted within a few years under the tyranny of sword, Bharat Mata’s sons stood tall like walls for several hundred years till any harm could befall on mother. We still live on as the only surviving continuous great culture from the past.


The motive was always self-defense. Harming the enemy was never our nature nor intention. Never ever was enemy border violated nor the women or children ever touched. Nay, we didn’t even consider anyone as enemy. Any aggression was just seen as a small mischief. A mother would always pardon her children no matter what they do, same way each time the sword was defeated and pardoned in the true motherly spirit.


However, men became cunning over time, values got eroded and instincts took over dharma. Money and power blinded humans in such a way that eyes are no longer able to see compassion and grace, ears are no longer receptive to the divine melody, smell of the spiritual fragrance doesn’t reach the nose and tongue is unable to express any gratitude.


In this changed world, mother is not sacred anymore. The all giver became the object of mockery and poverty. The mother who gave it’s very life and soul for its children, is ridiculed by the same children who no longer remember the past.  The new generation is ignorant of the glory and truth. Blinded with material ambition, they stand arm in arm with people who came and sucked the very blood of mother.


As long as Bharat Mata breathes, one thing, which never changed and will not change, is the beautiful tradition, the purest gem which mother has saved in her bosom. It’s the guru-shishya parampara, ie, the Guru –disciple tradition!


The real treasure, the knowledge, the spark of ultimate has been transferred for thousands and thousands of years from one generation to the other. Bharat is the land of great rishis, true sons of the divine who cared for nothing but service to humanity. Food, clothes, shelter, even a trace of personal comfort were not even their concern, they were ever ready to give even very backbone to liberate humanity and make it rise to next level of consciousness. This tireless works has never stopped and still goes on in the face of whatever obstacles society can create.


In this great tradition of Adi Shiva, Shankaracharya, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda another such selfless ever compassionate great rishi descended on this blessed land and the world called him Paramahamsa Nithyananda!


From the very young age of three it was clear to everyone around him that this boy was unique and destined for higher things. Ever absorbed in meditation and yogic practices, his favorite pastimes were making and worshipping clay idols and service at the Arunachaleshwara temple. Other enlightened masters of Tiruvannamalai, Yogi Ramsurat Kumar, Annamalai Swamigal and many more could see the greatness hidden in this small boy and loved his company.


Nithyananda’s whole life has been a selfless penance for the sake of humanity. He took on Parivrajaka (spiritual wandering) at the young age of 17 and traveled length and breadth of India to understand the people and needs of the time. During this period he also attained the ultimate state and realized his vision for the World. He came down to Bengaluru in 2002 and setup the Bidadi Ashram on 1 January 2003.


Ever since then, for the past seven years Swamiji has untiringly worked day and night without caring for any comforts or rest. He worked on all the dimensions of Vedic dharma simultaneously to bring life back to the great ancient truths and traditions. Imagine a mere boy of 25 years starting a mission and within seven years achieving what he has today. It’s incredible and only possible with that clairvoyance and the realization of oneness with divinity.


He brought back ancient meditation techniques to life and opened them to the whole world through several scientific programs like ASP, NSP, BSP, Inner Awakening and several more. His programs are unique in the sense that they don’t just give theoretical knowledge but also give direct experience. Recently in a 21 day Inner awakening program a survey was done and an overwhelming 98% people reported that they benefited tremendously and would recommend the program to everyone around them.


He gave insightful discourses in modern tongue on some of the greatest scriptures, Shiva Sutras, Bhagvad Gita, Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Jain Sutras and Upanishads. Service to the poor and needy is another important part of Swamiji’s vision. He is practical to the core and says unless the basic needs of food and education are met, no meditation techniques will bring any change. Dhyanapeetam ashrams and centers all over the world conduct free Anna Daan everyday. Bidadi and Tiruvannamalai ashram feed over one thousand kids free everyday. Free medical camps for needy are organized every week and not just consultation but medicines and surgical expenses are also covered by the Ashram. Free educational camps and meditation classes are conducted all over villages in South India and have benefited lakhs of people.


Swamiji has recently started several huge service projects to serve the people and uphold Santana dharma. He inaugurated the project for establishing 1008 schools all over the country to impart enlightenment-based education to the kids from a young age at near zero fees. Ashram funds 90% of the expenses for this service. He also started projects for the upkeep and maintenance of our heritage, some of our great temples, which lay in ruins.


Swamiji himself conducts free Bhagvad Gita satsangs and other mass programs where thousands of people come to get the knowledge and also darshan and blessings from the great master. Anyone who has been part of Kalpataru program or public darshan would have seen how Swamiji would sit for 10-12 hours at a stretch without any break and bless every single person individually. It simply requires effort, which is beyond human beings. His overflowing compassion is same for anyone and everyone.


Working untiringly over 20 hours a day continuously for last seven years, here Nithyananda is giving his life and blood for the people of Bharat and rest of the world and for the great Vedic Dharma and what do we do in return? Why does he need to do this? He neither has any desire nor time to enjoy any material goods.


Sword is back, only this time; it’s hidden under the might of pen and politics. Forces, which want to uproot every trace of ancient wisdom from Bharat, have been working for thousands of years. Whenever someone has risen up to breathe life into the great truths, he has been conspired against, manipulated and mired in endless small to big controversies and been forced to back track before anything significant could be achieved. We have numerous examples right from Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Osho, Kanchi Shankaracharya and some of the present day masters who have suffered the same fate.


Don’t think Vivekananda was as respected as he is now. When he was in U.S, the media and high clergy were working day and night against him. He had to face all kinds of charges and unthinkable allegations during his life. When a master is living, he is not seen in the same light, as he is when he is not in body. After so many years, now we respect and honor Vivekananda as a true lion of Bharat. As one who stood tall and told the world what Sanatana Dharma stands for and brought those timeless truths to light. Now we don’t even know the foolish and baseless controversies, which people created during his lifetime. However when he was in body he had to continuously answer not just the masses but also his own brother disciples and faced several tests.


Let us, sons and daughters of Bharat Mata wake up and see the big picture. Let us not miss again. Mother has suffered enough. It is time for us to stand up and be the pillars of support for her. Let us not be ignorant and side anymore with forces that are blinded by socio-religious frenzy and want to tear apart the great truths and their life support institutions.


Time has come where we need to rise up and be counted. It’s very easy to sit in the comfort of our living rooms, watch T.V. and come to conclusions. However, if we really care for the truth, let us do a little more, let us see the work done by Nithyananda and let us investigate and see the history of the people and channels involved. Let us not be swayed by small or big manipulated controversies. This is not the first time and knowing the forces at work against us, this will neither be the last time. Let us rise above these and work for the greater cause. The forgotten and neglected Bharat Mata who has been giving, giving and giving and waiting patiently for her sons to open their eyes one day and stand with her and for her.


If Nithyananda is missed, it will be a colossal loss for the whole civilization and I don’t know how many janmas it would take to overcome this setback if at all it could be overcome. Let’s invoke the sleeping spirit of Bharat and work for the truth before it is too late!

Sri. Nithyananda Swami is a trim, healthy looking young man with dark, shoulder-length hair. Handsome and polite, possessing an open manner and a wealth of curiosity, he could be any ordinary American college student.

The difference is that ordinary American college students do not wear orange robes and turbans, have not experienced spiritual enlightenment and are not regarded as a teacher, healer and mystic by millions of people in all corners of the world.

A mystic? The term is not a bad fit for "Swami," as he is known. Mystics, popular culture tells us, have direct communion with God. Through means not understood or measurable, mystics are thought to have access to ultimate realities or truths. Picture a mystic and you’ll probably picture someone full of bliss, someone gifted with lofty thoughts and insights the rest of us do not possess. The very presence of a mystic is thought to bring peace and healing to others.

That’s an apt description of Swami, a 27-year-old from South India. He is approached by thousands of people a year seeking relief from diseases and ailments that conventional medical approaches have not cured. Swami’s background lends him the air of a mystic, too. He left his home as a teen, visited ashrams across India, immersed himself in philosophy, read extensively and mastered the art of meditation.

When Swami passed through Oklahoma City recently as one stop in his world travels, I asked him if he would let me use some of modern medicine’s newest technology to peer into his brain while he meditated. My goal: to understand, measure and demystify what happens during the mystic phenomena. Swami, who believes that meditation has a scientific basis, happily agreed.

The procedures Swami went through were administered by some of Oklahoma City’s finest and most experienced physicians, neuropsychologists and researchers: Drs. Fordyce, Ruwe and Higgins of the Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Center Neuropsychology Department and Dr. Chacko of the PET Center of Oklahoma. These doctors were using technology they use with patients on a routine basis. When they look at images obtained by their technology, they know what’s normal and what’s not.

The results from testing Swami? Decidedly not normal.




IMAGING BRAIN ACTIVITY 

Our first look into Swami’s brain was achieved with the help of a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) device. Unlike traditional diagnostic techniques that produce images of the body’s structure or anatomy, such as X-rays, CT scans or MRI, PET produces images of the function of the brain through the metabolic activity of cells. An analog of glucose is attached to a radioactive PET tracer. The PET scanner then images the metabolically active brain areas at any given time.
In the case of Swami, the drug was intended to identify highly active areas of the brain in an alert and conscious state, in the early stages of meditation and during deep meditation.

The results of the PET scan tests were stunning. To begin with, the activity in the frontal lobes of Swami’s brain were significantly heightened, even in early meditation stages. The level of activity was higher than would be seen in the average human brain under any conditions.
When we then asked Swami to go into the deepest meditation state, there were two more remarkable findings.

First, the dominant hemisphere of Swami’s brain was more than 90 percent shut down. It was as if Swami’s brain had packed up and gone on vacation. It was quiet and still, completely at peace … and Swami had made it so at will.

A second amazing aspect of Swami’s deep meditation was that the lower portion of his mesial frontal areas lighted up in a very significant way. This area roughly corresponds to the reputed location of the mystical "Third Eye."

When we later asked Swami what he was doing when the mesial frontal areas lighted up, he said he was opening his third eye.

Associated with both cosmic and inner knowledge and thought to be a place of clarity and peace, the Third Eye is considered by many to be the seat of the soul. Were we seeing an indication that deep meditation can open an area of the brain responsible for communicating with the divine, looking deep into the mysteries of self or creation? I believe the PET scan revealed what I call the brain’s "D-spot." Whether you consider the "D" in D-spot to stand for delight, the divine or even dopamine, the chemical through which our bodies experience pleasure, initial indications are that meditation can stimulate it.



MEASURING BRAINWAVES 

The second procedure we used to look into Swami’s brain is known as Quantitative Electroencephalography, or QEEG. QEEG measures electrical patterns in the brain, patterns commonly referred to as brainwaves.

There are four bandwidths of brainwaves, each different in speed and each associated with a different state of mind. For instance, beta brainwaves are small and fast and linked with an awake, alert state of mind. Alpha brainwaves are slower and larger and are connected to feelings of well-being. Theta waves represent a state of consciousness between that is close to sleep, a stage in which there is a sense of calmness and serenity without active thought.

In a day’s time, most people will experience all four types of brainwaves. The progression from one bandwidth to another, though, is not so easily in their control.

From Swami’s QEEG, though, we can see that he has complete control over his brainwaves. When in deep meditation, his brain smoothly shifted from one state to another, like a talented pianist playing the scales. There was no hesitation and no retreating, just continuous, fluid shifts from one type of brainwave to the next. Because the QEEG represents the five brainwave bandwidths as colors, it was as we were watching Swami float from color to color within a rainbow.



CONCLUSIONS

The brain is the body’s most complex organ, containing more than 100 billion neurons, each of them in chemical and electrical conversation with up to 10,000 other neurons. Its sheer capacity to process information is astonishing.


Remarkably, that complexity presents little difficulty for Swami in managing his brain activity. Swami’s mind – his thoughts, emotions and intellect – control his brain. He can, in a very fluid, easy way, shift his brain function and alter his brainwaves.

More than answering questions, the voyage we took into the mind of a mystic brings intriguing questions for study.

Are there techniques we can learn and teach that will bring balance and peace into people’s lives?

Can we invoke a healing response or accelerate healing through specific training? Can we learn techniques that will allow us to control pain or alter the course of a disease?

Can we learn to activate what I call our D-spot, thus putting us in instant connection to delight or the divine?

The results from our study of Swami are new pages in our world’s growing book of research on the brain. There continue to be indications that the human mind may be able to choose to heal the body. We’re now looking at the possibility of people learning and acquiring these healing capabilities, an event of immense benefit for humankind. The potential for altering the rates and progression of many diseases – heart disease, cancer, arthritis, alcoholism and many others – is beginning to look achievable.

Swami is a bridge between the invisible, ancient world of mysticism and the modern, visible world of science and discovery. As brain research continues on a widespread basis, and as we appropriately bring the phenomena of mysticism into the realm of science for further study, we are taking strides on a path of hope and health.

I decided to take Bramacharya training in 2006 and I’m following it without difficulty till date. I want to add that nobody forced me to this decision; I am completely responsible for my actions and decisions, and I’m sharing my experience here out of integrity to the Truth.

I can declare out loud today: I HAVE NEVER FACED ANY HARASSMENT OF ANY KIND FROM PARAMAHAMSA NITHYANANDA. I have never come across a single person complaining about any of the allegations held against Him today, and I have never seen anything neither obscene, illegal nor hidden, in Paramahamsa Nithyananda’s body language and any girl or boy in His surroundings.

I deeply love my ashram which is a sacred place where people harbor a sacred attitude towards each other. Such a declaration may be manipulated, defamed, or laughed at by others, but it is a fact to me. The whole Dhyanapeetam Sangha should have the right and discretion to live its lifestyle without being judged, or being falsely and illegally exposed, as it is the case today.

I have seen over time how my Guru, Paramahamsa Nithyananda has complete grasp of the spiritual subject as expounded in genuine ancient texts and books. He has fully imbibed these Truths in his daily life. His actions and speech are expressing it in His day-to-day behavior. He is even able to convey the spiritual Truths to all around Him without a word. This is my experience. I have seen Him handling all types of mental set-up which come to Him, leading aspirants on the path from where they stand; with utmost compassion, care, generosity, fairness and altruism. He can relate the vedic scriptural truths to any faith or religion and emphasize on these universal Truths without hurting religious feelings of western seekers as well.

He is an enlightened Master of our times, a Brahma-Jnani or in simple terms: He is having knowledge of God and leads His disciple on the path of ‘Living enlightenment’, constantly reinforcing the Truth that inner bliss is the Master and never failing to His purpose. He clearly has no other motives than sharing His knowledge with utmost respect to all beings that come to Him for guidance.

The devotees I know from all over the world are not disturbed by the on-going propaganda held against Him- we are completely clear about our experience with Swamiji and Swamiji Himself. He has unveiled in us an unshakable, incorruptible and indubitable experience of the Truth and this very fact makes of Him a Being who should be honored with utmost respect and reverence by all.

2. Dr. Collins observed how the brain waves of Paramhamsa Nithyananda work while Spiritually Healing people. The brain waves of the "healed" (a guy called David) were also examined by Dr. Collins. After a detailed research, Dr. Collins was shocked and concluded that a human mind is capable of healing human body if developed to an extent as Paramahamsa Nithyananda's mind is.
